Build your 3D game: character, scenery and code
Medium · From scratch: create a 3D character, create a 3D scenery and program the hero to walk in the world.
Interactive tutorial: the editor checks each step by itself.
- Pick a sprite. Open the Costumes tab and click the "3D" button. In the generator, choose a type (e.g. Robot), click "Apply to selected" and save as a 3D model.
- Add the "3D World" extension (Extensions button, bottom corner).
- Click the STAGE (the thumbnail to the right of the sprite list) and open the Backdrops tab.
- Click the "3D World" button. In the editor, click "Generate" to create terrain and then "Save". The backdrop gets the 3D tag.
- Click your character and go back to Code. Drag "when flag clicked" (Events).
- In the 3D World category, snap "camera: third person" and "player controls: keyboard (WASD) and mouse".
- Snap "player appearance (third person)" and choose your character (it shows in the list with "(3D)").
- Click the flag, click the stage and walk with W A S D. You are your 3D character, in your 3D scenery!
- Challenge: create a second backdrop with "3D World" and, on a button sprite, use "when this sprite clicked" + "switch backdrop to ..." to change levels without the flag. (challenge)
