Create an animated 3D sprite from scratch
Medium · Build a 3D character in the generator (it comes with animations) and make the sprite move.
Interactive tutorial: the editor checks each step by itself.
- Pick a sprite. Open the Costumes tab and click the "3D" button to open the 3D character maker.
- In "Create a character", choose a type (e.g. Robot) and play with the colors, hair, hat and accessory.
- Click "Apply to selected" to see the character. It comes with ready animations: idle, walk, run, jump, wave, attack, dance…
- Save as a 3D character. The sprite becomes a 3D character (shows the "3D" badge).
- Add the "3D Characters" extension (it's free).
- In Events, drag "when flag clicked".
- In the 3D Characters category, snap "animate the 3D character: wave at 8 frames per second".
- Click the green flag. Your 3D character waves on the stage (the costumes switch by themselves, like an animation)!
- Challenge: switch to "automatic animation: idle when still and walk when moving" and move the sprite with "change x by 10" on the arrows — it walks with the right animation. (challenge)
